Hello, I'm new at the forum AND cnc routing....I know nothing about either so I'm not really sure if I'm posting this correctly but I did a search on my problem and this was the closest subject I found. I did not see any way to start a new question so if anyone can lead me in the right direction on how to post a question on this forum...please do.
Vcarve pro 8.0 downloadMy question is...I needed to cut two different depths, one at .125 and the other at .5 I set my tool pass depth to .25. I made two separate toolpaths...one for the .125 cut and the other for the .5 cut but chose the same tool for both cuts (the one with the pass depth of .25) I figured the cut depth would over-ride the pass depth setting on the .125 inch deep cut and would certainly only cut it .125 deep but... instead it cut both areas deeper than both cut depth settings. It made 2 passes to cut the .5 inch deep cut...but overall cut it quite a bit deeper than the .5 inch (just shy of .75 inch deep) and it cut the .125 inch deep just shy of.25 inch deep! This makes no sense to me. Can anyone explain this?

I redid the entire job but this time I set up a separate tool for each cut...one with the pass depth of .25 (for the .5 deep cut) and the other with a pass depth of .125 for the .125 inch deep cut and it cut it perfectly.Hello, I am new to CNC. I have the 60th Anniversary Edition Shark with VCarve Pro 8.0. I also have Cut 3D which came with the Shark. I have a 3D model from Design and Make of the end of a wine barrel. I want to put a simple insignia in the center, raised above the carved height on the inside of the barrel. My thought is I need to create a 3D model of the insignia and then merge with the wine barrel.
Being new, I don't know where to start looking on how to do what I want, or even if the thought process is correct.
